May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Bringing awareness to our mental health and wellness is vital. Many individuals experience symptoms of mental illness. There are many causes that can affect our mental health. Some include physical illness, emotional illness, and spiritual darkness, among many others. As a result, our perspective-our view and thinking of life and those who love us become distorted, and our thinking process becomes affected and unclear. Our moods and behaviors are also affected.

As children of God and Image Bearers of God (see Gen.1:26-27), His desire is to heal, restore, and bring wholeness to our lives.

Our wonderful counselor, Jesus, understands us, meets us right where we are, and is moved with compassion. "And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick." Matt. 14:14. (NKJV)

Our compassionate Jesus (Our High Priest) also sympathizes with us. "So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most." Hebrews 4:14-16 (NLT) God cares for us and desires us as His children to come boldly to Him with our needs.

God knows us intimately. He is near to those with broken hearts and crushed in spirit. "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Psalm 34:18 (NIV)
